Introduction to Sponsorship

The DonorShops Sponsorship module allows you track all your sponsorable assets (whether they are children, animals, missionaries, etc) and make those assets available for sponsorship through your website.

Implementation

1

Adjust Advanced Settings options for Age of Maturity and Max. Sponsors as desired

2

Decide what Custom Fields you are going to create before adding any sponsored individuals.

There are some sponsorship fields that always appear in JPanel for each sponsored individual.

They are:

  • First Name
  • Last Name
  • Gender
  • Birth Date
  • Age
  • Biography
  • Picture

The Custom Fields you add are any additional fields that you want to display for each sponsored individual.

You can add, modify or delete these later on if you like, but it is generally better to plan this out ahead of time so you don’t have to go back and modify values for all your sponsored individuals.

3

Add desired Custom Fields

4

Create your Payment Bundles

5

Add sponsored individuals

6

When you are ready to make your sponsorship module functionality public, add a page menu item linked to your main sponsorship list page.

Custom Fields

The DonorShops Sponsorship Module provides a structured approach to managing sponsorship and the same parameters (e.g.; Age. Guardian Relationship, Hobbies, School, etc.) will be reported for all sponsored indiviuals, so it is worth spending the time to decide exactly what parameters you want to include.  Also keep in mind that you will be updating and maintaining information for all sponsored individuals when you are making these decisions.

Each Custom Field can be one of:

  • Text
  • Multi-Select
  • Advanced Multi-Select

Type

Notes

Text

Shows as a text

Note: If you use a text field as a filter on the website (see below), the field will be shown as a text field which the user can type in matching, or partially matching, values into.

Multi-Select

For drop-down select options. When you choose this, it will give you an ‘Edit Options’ panel where you can enter the various options you want to offer.

Multi-Select options can have GEO coordinates assigned to them and you can choose whether to show the field on the main list page as a filter value.

Advanced Multi-Select

These are like select options but can also have summary information included and also a link to another page in your site.  So, for example, if you had an Advanced Multi-Select option for schools, you could have page(s) in your DonorShops site that show and tell about the school(s).

Standard Fields

There are some sponsorship fields that always appear in JPanel for each sponsored individual.

They are:

  • First Name
  • Last Name
  • Gender
  • Birth Date
  • Age
  • Biography
  • Picture

Of these, the following may be masked out during initial DonorShops Sponsorship Module setup on request:  If one or more of these fields is masked out, it will not appear in sponsorship pages on the site but will still appear in the asset detail pages.

  • Gender
  • Birth Date
  • Age

Payment Bundles

Each Payment Bundle is a collection of payment options.  A Payment Bundle may include a mixture of recurring and non-recurring payment options.

When you add sponsored individuals to your system, you get to choose which payment bundle will be applied to this individual.  This would allow you to, for example, show higher sponsorship costs in areas where it is more expensive to care for these individuals.

Advanced Settings

There are two Sponsorship related options in the DonorShops JPanel Advanced Settings window:

  • Age of Maturity:  Children who have reached this age will no longer be automatically re-listed for sponsorship when an existing sponsorship expires
  • Max Sponsors: Use this field to specify the maximum number of sponsors that a sponsored individual can have.  When a sponsored individual reaches this maximum number, DonorShops will show the individual as Sponsored and will not allow additional sponsors. If the child (or other sponsored individual) already has at least one sponsor but has not reached the Max. Sponsors number of sponsors; they will show as Sponsored but will still allow additional sponsorship(s) up to the defined maximum.
